You're buying a first-run device from a company you've probably never heard of, and waiting weeks for it. That asks a lot of you. So the terms are simple: cancel any time before she ships, and if she arrives and isn't what you hoped, you have thirty days.

Kalea is built in production runs, and depending on your lot you may be waiting several weeks or a couple of months between paying and unboxing. Any time before your unit ships, you can cancel for a full refund — the device, and the $30 shipping & handling. No reason required, no restocking fee, no questions.
Email kalea@openkalea.com with your order number and we'll refund you to the card you paid with. We'd rather hand your money back than have you waiting on something you no longer want.
You have 30 days from delivery to return Kalea for any reason at all — including no reason. She needs to come back complete and in resellable condition: the device, the power adapter, the quick-start card, and the original packaging.
Use her properly in those thirty days. Talk to her, turn the knobs, see whether she earns her place. What we can't accept back is a unit that's damaged, incomplete, or missing the any parts.
Wipe her first if you like — but you don't have to. Kalea keeps her memory on the device, so anything you told her is on the drive in your hands. We erase and reflash every returned unit before it goes anywhere else. How her memory works →
We refund within five business days of the unit arriving with us, to the original payment method through Stripe. Your bank then takes its own time — usually a few days, occasionally up to ten. We'll email you the moment we've sent it.
For one year from delivery, if the hardware fails through a manufacturing or materials defect, we'll repair it or replace it — our choice, at no cost to you, including shipping both ways. If we can't do either, we'll refund you.
This covers the device and the power adapter. It covers a knob that stops reading, a port that fails, a board that dies, a unit that won't boot on its shipped software.
Nothing here takes away rights the law already gives you. Customers in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the European Union have statutory consumer guarantees — around faulty goods, cancellation windows, and remedies — that apply regardless of what this page says. Where a law gives you more than this policy does, the law wins. We're not going to argue with you about it.
If you're returning a unit from Canada, the UK, or Australia, mark the parcel clearly as a returned good on the customs declaration. A return that arrives billed to us as a fresh commercial import can be refused at the border, and neither of us wants that. Import duty or VAT you paid when she first arrived is refunded by your customs authority, not by us — ask them about reclaiming it. More on duties →
Write to kalea@openkalea.com. If something here is unclear or seems unfair, say so — this policy is young, and we'd rather fix it than defend it. [ref: return mailing address and RMA process to be added before launch]
